In verse 46 of Baqarah, ẓann, verbally means suspicion, to meeting God and to resurrection is introduced as one of the positive attributes of the humble worshipers, while the fourth verse of this surah considers certainty to the Hereafter as one of the attributes of the believers. Since there is a kind of contradiction and inconsistency between ẓann to the resurrection and certainty about it, a kind of conflict has been considered between the two verses. The commentators have tried to eliminate the apparent and initial conflict between the two verses and to explain the philosophy of using the interpretation of suspicion instead of certainty. This study, after examining about one hundred interpretive sources, has reached ten interpretive expressions and has included them in three main views: suspicion means certainty – that of most commentators; doubt inclined to certainty and distinction the meaning of suspicion and of certainty from one another and the attempt to resolve the conflict through the virtual or related use of suspicion. According to this study, the third view is more compatible with the criteria and interpretive criteria.
