That a Muslim marries a non-Muslim has been referred to in different verses like 3 of Noor, 221 of Baqarah and 10 of Momtahinah. Again in 5 of Ma`idah, Muslims` marrying the people of the Book has been dealt with. Fariqain commentators have given four views under this verse; some have viewed the marriage not lawful absolutely, some absolutely lawful and some have taken a middle position.
