Witnessing of the Messenger of God (s) and the believers in the Day of Judgment is a definite teaching of the Holy Quran. But issues such as: how to endure witness, what is meant by the Ummah, the way for becoming aware of deeds, how to bear a witness, etc. are disputed by commentators, and the differences in the field have obscured the essence of the issue. In this article, with the aim of fully clarifying the issue of witnessing of prophet and believers as viewed by Shia and Sunni commentators, the interpretative opinions of Seyyed Mohammad Hossein Tabatabai in Tafsir al-Mizan and Seyyed Mahmoud Alusi in Tafsir Ruh al-Ma'ani have been analyzed in a comparative manner and with a descriptive-analytical method. The findings of the research, while expressing the common points, indicate the points of disagreement of these two commentators, whose main difference is in the witnessing of the Ummah; Tabatabai believes that selected people from the Ummah of the Messenger of God (s) will bear witness with their constant presence as observers of actions in the Day of Resurrection, but Seyed Mahmoud Alusi considers all the Ummah of the Prophet (s) as bearing witnesses of actions.
