The verse 55 of Surah Al-Ghafir is among the verses being considered to be in challenge with the infallibility of the last Prophet. In this verse, it has been ordered to the God’s Messenger to ask forgiveness for his sins. Suggesting a commentary of this verse, some commentators have attempted to declare that the Prophet is innocent but all of them were not successful equally. Reporting and criticizing ten viewpoints regarding commentaries of this verse, and relying on the trend, time and context of the verse revelation, the objective behind blaming the Prophet was for those thoughts came to his mind due to the Prophet's human nature in respect to those difficult conditions in Mecca in that he thought God’s promise was slow in helping the Prophet and the true believers. Based upon commentary methods of commentators’, it is inferred that all of them are in full agreement on infallibility of the Prophet in this verse. Even those who believe in venial sins or the sins before the prophetic mission have been seeking the way for commenting all the verses such as the above-mentioned one in such a manner proving the Prophet’s infallibility but they have not been completely successful.
