According to the verse: Know that the life of this world is only play, and idle talk, and pageantry, and boasting among you, and rivalry in respect of wealth and children. Some commentators have viewed the human five tendencies of play, idle talk, pageantry, boasting and rivalry as being in accordance with human five periods of life including infancy, childhood, adolescence, youth and adulthood. This paper has intended to study psychological qualities of the periods with regard to the Quranic verses. As understood, in most verses the five tendencies have been regarded as being earthly and harmful; yet, in some cases, one may meet a good qualification on them. It should be stated that the tendencies may not be limited to the periods; their appearance is in its special period but their existence extends to other periods also.
