Abstract: (245 Views)
In certain verses of the Quran, the rhetorical device of an oath is employed to prove or emphasize a subject, indicating the abundant blessings of the object sworn by (muqsam bih) as well as the significance of the subject sworn to (muqsam lah). The primary question is: What is the correlation and relationship between the muqsam bih and the muqsam lah in Quranic oaths? The research hypothesis posits that in each instance, there is a specific conceptual relationship and harmony between the muqsam bih and the muqsam lah that justifies swearing by particular entities to prove a specific matter. Elucidating this conceptual relationship can further reveal one of the dimensions of the Quran’s rhetorical inimitability (iʿjāz bayānī), which reflects the highly precise arrangement of words and the meticulous conceptual connection and harmony among them. This descriptive-analytical study examines the harmony and conceptual relationship between the muqsam bih in Surah An-Naziat (the angels commissioned to extract souls and manage the affairs of the universe) and the muqsam lah (proving the veracity of the Resurrection). It concludes that various analyses can be presented regarding their harmony, including: the correlation between God’s precise divine management in this world through angels and the inevitability of the Resurrection and the management of the Hereafter; the manifestations of divine power in this world as evidence of God’s power to resurrect the dead in the Hereafter; the extraction of human souls by angels as a preliminary sign of the Resurrection; and swearing by the angels to prepare the human mind to accept the reality of the Hereafter.
